Phase 1

I finished up the Extras and getting into Phase 1 independent coding.

The team leads have been making some great progress streamlining our student tracking surveys and generally getting some of the kinks out of the lead processes to make a more efficient management environment. Things like automating the survey responses eases tedious tasks no one enjoyed. This giving more time for rewarding activities like helping the students.

Notable today was working with Troy who has really developed the 2D app beyond requirements even in Phase 1 (and where I am in the course) with some nice refinements like keeping the momentum of destroyed enemies rather than have them unrealistically explode in place. Looking at some of the questions he has about how to communicate variables across objects and scripts helped me understand it better also — like using public methods within scripts to access private variables, and non-void methods to return needed info. These shared problem sessions are almost as valuable as following the course, and in some ways more rewarding in sharing the a-ha enlightenment. This has been forcing us to think through the problems and understanding how and why the solutions should be constructed.
